"I walked into the main bar area of the Bell pub in Bristol and was immediately consumed by passion, fire, clover, and sweat. The sounds emanating from the system enthralled me, and soon I was sitting down with a pint of cold ale... If I'm not mistaken, I heard 'Le Canari Est Sur Le Balcon,' a lovely ditty by Gainsbourg sung by Jane Birkin about a woman who commits suicide by switching on the gas and putting on her favourite record. In a note by her bedside table she scribbles in pencil "the canari is on the balcony". Touching. Next came a skit from KMD's classic album, Mr.Hood, about Mr.Hood getting a haircut, set to a skittery jazzy backdrop. After that, a song by The Moldy Peaches..and then classic New Orleans funk from Eddie Bo! I was astounded! And ordered another pint. I sat down, and looked forward to enjoying the rest of the evening, accompanied by my trusty choon-smith, DJ Je Ne Sais Quoi..."
